Year 1 of getting back to normality
I had a stroke just before I was 50, (an Ischemic stroke) I went back to work after 6 months, a phased return and I have had a car since June 2017, so essentially – all good.
The side that is affected is the right side (unfortunately – I was right handed !!!)
However, I went to UCL in London and for a year I had Stem Cells (a trial) for my arm, which it has done some good ! Also I have a splint on my leg and foot and I have had Botox in my arm, which actually is making it straight again !
So, I am getting better, all the time. Each week I feel something in my arm or leg that make me feel that things are getting back to the way they were. My speech is really good now and my memory is top notch !
And I do physio, gym and swimming each week.
No ‘two’ people are the same when it comes to having a Stroke
There is quite negative vibes from those who have had a Stroke (not always, i don’t mean that) but i want people to talk about it and encourage people to get better, not just sit there and say that, this is it ! Look for other ways of doing what you are doing, there’s far too much worrying about it and basically you just have to get on with it and try as much as you can – who know’s what might happen. It may take people years and years (or less….) but you just have to go with it
