UCLH – the 2nd time round !

When I had finished my trial of the stem cells, we then asked what was out there for me to trial and get better as well. The most exciting one was the Robotic Arm !!! or Ratuls Trial I had to go round the M25 for 2 hours (3 coming back …..) I did loads of tests for mental agility but the final selection was done randomly by a computer and I was selected in the ‘monitor without treatment’ which was a shame but there you go.

So I emailed Caroline at UCLH and asked if there was anything else I could do.

She emailed Nick who was fine with me going up there as an outpatient, as long as he had a letter referring me from my GP (which was fine I might ad)

It was so nice to see Nick again after 6 months (I had an appointment on 2nd January 18) and the physio – Fran. He asked me what I had been doing, I mentioned the stimulator, told him I was going to the gym, told him about the physio on me arm and then told him about my foot. I told him I was back at work, righting my blog, got a car and to all intents and purposes I was the same as before I had a stroke only less movement in my arm and leg.

Fran looked at my range of movement and the tone – which had reduced. It was only there in my hand.

They said that it was important that I reached forward with my arm and hand as it was a movement that I didn’t  have. The shoulders were fine, but until I had this movement they could not see me for the 3 week clinic to do a trial to see what could happen (or not)

But they said that I was doing all the right things, going to the gym/physio etc etc and couldn’t do any more just keep on doing what I was doing, apparently I was amazing !

But that one phrase meant the world to me and I could continue down that road and then hopefully go back to Nick with some kind of movement of my arm and them attend his intensive clinic. They were honest and said that they didn’t know if the hand would move again but all the time I was doing the things I was doing it kept my arm “in the game”.

Nick meant that all the time my body was fit and ready for any form of improvement, it wouldn’t be lack of strength or flexibility that would stand in its way
